How PandaDoc Got To The Top

The journey for PandaDoc started in 2004 when two friends got together with an idea. In 2007, the pair launched their first business in cloud content management.

The company was officially renamed PandaDoc in 2014. If you look at 2021, the company had announced its $1 billion valuation. Today, the company ranks as one of the top document-generating software in the world.

The company aims to increase efficiency with document workflow automation. PandaDoc offers the ultimate one-stop-shop for creation, approval, contracts, you name it.

Our team tested the software so that you don’t have to, and you may be shocked at what we found.

Functionality

At its core, PandaDoc is a simple but effective product. At the home screen, you will find the app breaks down to views and folders.

The automations for the platform are plentiful and they do one of my favorite things: add descriptions to everything. The automations range from sales and CRM to HR to customer support. You can do things like attach PDFs, update products in other platforms, and move documents within the app when statuses change. Which leads me to the next feature.

The application is set up to integrate flawlessly with tons of your favorite platforms. To name a few, they have Dropbox, Zoho, Pipedrive, MS Office, Salesforce, and Hubspot, to name a few. The company claims to include over 30 integrations.

When starting a document, you can select from the company’s over 750 templates. They have a template for everything. Everything a normal person or business would need regularly or trust software to do.

Once at document editing, you’ll find a user-friendly setup. The editing is no code, so anyone with an ounce of creativity would be able to generate a document. To add fields, you drag and drop where you want. You can then update or add any variables you want. From the editing side, the user can also access the app’s integrations.

One of the features the company hangs its hat on is its document control. While editing, you can add recipients to a signature so the intended person can receive the document directly. You can also lock all legal information associated with a document to avoid any compromises down the road.

The app also offers a learning academy, eLibrary, blog, and community so that all questions you may have are almost certain to have answers.

Performance

During my testing, I found that the app responded well to different operations. It wasn’t “snappy” fast but it is nothing worth complaining about. The company also has not had an issue in 2 months at the time of this article.

User Interface

With this being the first of its kind that I’ve reviewed, everything on the app is where I would expect it. With every page you load, the process is almost intuitive. And if it isn’t intuitive, the company has one of my favorite features: descriptions! I know in 2023, all of the companies are moving to this monotone, unistep design where all logos are bland (look at Netflix), but the customer is still a human and I still think a cleanly integrated way to keep mini descriptions without a manhunt is something to marvel at.

The automation section does something I don’t believe I’ve seen yet: letting you activate and deactivate. It’s something I just wouldn’t think about, but it makes sense to be there.

Innovation

I believe that for this section of tech, the company has done all the innovation it possibly can. I would like to reserve the right to recant that statement, though.

Versus The Field

competitor

Documint

The Better Rating: 89/100

Highlights:
  • Drag-and-drop designer
  • Looping
  • Data syncing

When it comes to pricing options, Documint definitely wins.

However, when you dive into the features of the paid subscriptions, you’ll find that PandaDoc is offering far more with every tier.

If you compare PandaDoc’s Essentials vs. Documint’s Silver, you see a clear winner. PandaDoc operates with unlimited documents sent, payments, and templates at every level.

Ease Of Use

The platform is simple and to the point. If you have ever used Google Docs and Drive, the app will be intuitive. Everything loads fast and the user interface is essentially flawless. The company has done a fantastic job of not complicating a simple task.

Likes And Dislikes

If I had to say one thing I really like about the app, it has to be the organization. You can tell the user interface was carefully crafted to serve the user and not overload us with pointless UI and designs.

If I must choose a flaw, it has to be the pricing model. There is no free tier. I’m not the document generation software expert, but it feels like that’s something they could have had to allow more users to enter their market.

At The End Of The Day…

This software tool is everything you would want for this niche. There is a reason they are industry leaders. If I had to pick an audience for this app, I’d say mid to large companies. The barrier of entry favors it but you will be getting your money’s worth. Doctors, lawyers, project managers, restaurant owners, and everyone in between could benefit from document generation software.
