From Work Management To Sales CRM To Development
Founded in 2012, daPulse was established to address scaling issues that a fast-growing business can experience. Very quickly, they were able to secure funding and begin to improve. Moving into prototyping, the founders discovered the commonality amongst organizations across the planet.
Fast forward to 2017, the company rebranded to monday.com and moved from Israel to NYC.
In 2023, the multi-product global brand currently provides its 180,000+ customers with sales CRM, development, work management, AI solutions, and much more.
Today, we will dive into the work management app available to its users and see my experience testing.

Functionality
Monday.com work management uses items that get added to the workspaces. Items can be boards, docs, and dashboards. I would explain boards by describing it as the go-to option. It’ll be where you set tasks and do the core of your project management.
Dashboards let you pick your style. Once in a new dashboard, the user can add widgets. These widgets range from charts to progress visuals to Gantt. You can even code your own widgets by building on the app’s framework. Each dashboard connects to one or more of your boards, so if you have multiple teams working towards one ultimate goal, there is functionality to bring the data together.
The app’s document feature does exactly what you expect it to do. One of the integrated features is the ability to add interactive and collaborative widgets like whiteboards and even live board updates.
The app is loaded with templates for all functions and I don’t think you will suffer from a lack of starting points.
The user can pick from a massive list of column additions on the board, ensuring your feed will be tailored to your project team’s needs. You can even combo some of the fields into one.
When visualizing the boards, you will find a view for everything you would need. This can range from Gantt to Kanban. Working hand in hand with views, you can have your data in real-time with your choice of 30+ widgets.
An additional feature not found everywhere is the ability to collect and manage requests from the app with forms. And much like the rest of monday.com, the user can live track those responses with dashboards.
As for resources, you can access global events hosted by the company, partnership programs, and 24/7 support. And if you don’t find one of their 200 templates that fits your use case, you can utilize a template made by another monday.com user in Spaces.
Performance
During my testing, monday.com has performed favorably. If you take a look at their status page, you will find outages of various services. However, from my experience, I must have chosen great times because it has not missed a beat.
When surfing through the app on the browser, I have found minor hiccups, which I will chalk up to my own internet and not monday.com servers. Even with what seems to be tons of data loading with every click, monday.com is snappy fast.
User Interface
The UI for the platform is simply where it needs to be. Light and dark modes are available, and I could pick up the work management software functions without googling the help documents.
Innovation
I felt the work management side of the platform does what it needs. Nothing is overwhelmingly new and never seen before.
I say all of this with a grain of salt. monday.com has innovated tremendously in regards to the entire platform. For a team that chooses monday.com as the do-it-all service, the innovation will be front and center, broadcasting the versatility of it all. I will eventually circle around to the other monday.com apps, but for the sake of this review, I will only talk about workflow automation today.
Versus The Field
This section of work management has no shortage of apps, but I will compare it with Wrike for this review.
At the base, both platforms have browser and desktop versions, allowing the user to mobilize. Both utilize boards and dashboards, however, I think Wrike may have them beat for dashboards. It is also worth noting you can’t even use dashboards on the Wrike free version.
As you go down the pricing table, you will see that monday.com excels in features at basically every price point. If you are looking for a simpler solution to work management that can expand into other team types one day, monday.com is the application for you.
Ease Of Use
I found the app to be incredibly smooth to navigate. As I stated earlier, the entire workflow tool is intuitive. Unlike other applications I have used, this is not lacking in user experience.
Likes And Dislikes
I like the dashboards. A lot. Sometimes, work management software can be a little overwhelming. However, I believe monday.com’s strategy of simplifying the entire platform has its perks. I appreciate simplicity as I find myself reverting to “go-to” views or widgets regarding these kinds of platforms.
In the same breath, if you compare the work management side directly to its competitors, maybe a little more functionality is due. Their competitors like ClickUp have innovated extensively and it feels like the user looking just for work management on monday.com can get left behind soon.
At The End Of The Day…
Monday.com has proven for years that it can be a viable option for a business or team looking to centralize the project’s tasks. While the project management side of things may have some limitations, the entire suite is really where it shines. They have put their efforts into bringing everything to one place and the work shows with the smooth integrations within the suite and other applications. I see this as the perfect solution for a larger company that may be looking for an all-in-one tool.
